AIR RAID SHELTER POND CONVERSION
On this very rare project my customer wanted to not only get rid of the old bomb shelter but use it in a way that would regenerate the eco system around her in her garden. A pond was the obvious answer. Once the 12 inches of concrete was kango’d from the roof it was a case of making level the finished height and capping off with a buff Sandstone.
After the door was blocked up it was time to scratch coat and render the inside walls to accommodate 2 coats of A1 pond paint in black.
The overflow system was simple using a soak away into the very light sandy land.
5 piers were built inside the pond using blue bricks capped with again Sandstome on which will sit 4 corners of planting and the centre one slightly higher is for the water feature with internal pump to give the relaxing flow of water.
A small oak retainer was added to rectify the level differences.
