POND PROJECT

This area over the autumnal and winter months was prone to flooding with excess surface water running of the adjacent vineyard and was just a perfect spot for a natural pond.

The pond dimensions are approx  12 m long 4 m wide and 3 ft deep.  During the excavation work we removed 30 T of soil and clay.  The shape was determined by the existing planting, boundary fence and natural flow of flood water. Predetermined planting shelves were left to suit the planting plans as discussed with my client before digging.

The pond was under laid and lined using a reinforced PVC liner.  An adjustable skimmer was fitted so we could adjust water levels if necessary, this was linked to a perforated 4 inch land drain which was then ran to the nearest ditch.  The bog area was filled with a mix of leaf mulch, compost, soil, ash and 20 mm stones.  The far edge was finished with ash lengths pined down with metal rods to avoid the bank from subsiding.
